Wine tourism

The wines of Quinta Vale da Roca are mostly made from native Portuguese grape varieties and produced under the own brand "Quinta Vale da Roca", with three labels, one red and two whites and are made with grapes from the property's vineyard. .
In addition, “Vinha da Roca White” and “Vinha da Roca Red” wines are produced from grapes that are purchased from local producers.

History, Soil and Climate

The winemaking activity is documented in this region since the sec. XIII. Colares is recognized for its exceptional terroir, and for the character and elegance it gives to its wines, having become one of the most remarkable regions in Portugal. The clear predominance of white grape varieties at Quinta Vale da Roca has to do with the edaphoclimatic characteristics of the region, which is conducive to this type of grapes, as the granitic soil of fine clayey-sandy texture, associated with a markedly Mediterranean climate of the subtype Oceanic, with dry and mild summers, winters with medium precipitation, with frequent morning mists and winds with a strong Atlantic influence give the wines of this region a strong character, complexity and a very specific typicity.

the vineyard

For planting the vines, national and foreign grape varieties were chosen, always with the aim of producing wines that express well the “terroir” of Colares on its south-facing slopes, warmer and sunnier, tempered by the North wind, fresh and “salty” of summer days. The varieties planted are the result of research into strains that adapt well to this climate, such as Pinot Noir, Arinto, Encruzado and Malvasia.

The Wines

The first wines appear in 2017 with the white and red Vinha da Roca wines. Wines thought and designed according to the characteristics of the region using mostly national grape varieties. The labels are painted by the owner, Margarida, who in her spare time sees painting as a way of expressing the feelings that the Sintra region and Quinta Vale da Roca convey to her, the warmth coming from the south in the reds and the blue of the sea in the whites. .

The Quinta Vale da Roca wine portfolio is designed as follows:
Quinta da Roca White
Quinta da Roca Red
Quinta Vale da Roca White Malvasia (Fermentation in vat with battonage).
Quinta Vale da Roca Pinot Noir (4 clones) (Aging in oak barrels
French).
Quinta Vale da Roca Encruzado (Fermentation and aging in French oak barrels).
